what the beep?

nothing looks better to the transportation industry than these images

zen city's avatarmy zen city

it’s the start of memorial day weekend – even if it’s only 9:30  friday morning.   horns have been beeping incessantly since 7:00 am.  here’s what first avenue looked like out my window, from the united nations at 48th street to 51st street:

1st ave traffic mem day 2013 (4)

and from 52nd up to 56th street:

1st ave traffic mem day 2013 (1)

if i had to guess, i would say about 10% of the car horns were honking so much they made up for the other 90%.   it’s 9:30 in the morning –  shouldn’t these peeps be at work already?  i’m trying to find the happy in this.

i look forward to rush hour out of the city this evening and hope all of these folks get the rest & relaxation they apparently need.

happy memorial day!

It only takes one

After listening to the impromptu performance by local amateur musicians who played classic country, bluegrass and gospel songs under a tent in the courthouse square this past weekend, I realized that I prefer that type of live music to the stage sets by traveling professionals.  Makes me want to walk into an Irish pub and hear impromptu music there!

It Only Takes A Moment by
Cornelius
It only takes a moment
For your eyes to meet and then
Your heart knows in a moment
You will never be alone again

I held her for an instant
But my arms felt sure and strong
It only takes a moment
To be loved a whole life long…

Clerk
I missed a few words back there, Mr Hackl. Right after ‘it only’–

All
[in docket]
…Takes a moment!
For your eyes to meet and then
Your heart knows in a moment
You will never be alone again

He held her for an instant
But his arms felt sure and strong
It only takes a moment–

Mrs. Molloy
He held me for an instant
But his arms felt safe and strong
It only takes a moment
To be loved a whole life long

Cornelius
And that is all
That love’s about

Mrs. Molloy
And we’ll recall when time runs out

Both
That it only took a moment
To be loved a whole life long!

Bureaucracy, Foolery, Inc.?

In buffoonery news, a national agency admitted it was a banana, not a knife, which the victim launched at an agent.

The agent is at hospital, recovering from wounds directly attributable to slipping on a banana peel, and is expected to recover.

The banana fruit, unfortunately, died on the scene.

Following in their commander-in-chief’s footsteps, no one will take responsibility for murdering the banana thrower.
